Succession!

MMW is releasing a kids album Let's Go Everywhere. More importantly, All Things Considered considers them a "well known jazz trio". 'Well known' might be a bit of an overstatement, but they made the list for kids music that won't drive the parents crazy.

Let's Game

I think I told all of the contributors to this blog that I intended to build a "virtual tabletop" for roleplaying. Well, I was researching this small niche of the software world when I ran across a tool that does much of what I want from such a package. An internal monologue ensued:
"Great, now I have something to use as a benchmark for my own application."

[some time passed]

[some brain cells woke up]

[a neuron or two fired]

[a tiny carrier pigeon was seen to fly urgently into my ear]

"Huh, maybe we could just use this tool instead of me writing another one."
And so I proudly link to MapTool, a Java-based tool for roleplaying games. To be clear, this tool isn't quite what I wanted to build, in the sense that, well, it's in Java, but it's close enough for government purposes. More importantly, it gives us something to test the viability of remote gaming. I would like to propose the following plan, please kindly respond in comments or via email with ways of improving upon it:
  1. We should schedule games via Google calendar. Since everyone has (or can easily get) a Gmail account, this seems kind of a no-brainer to me. It's perhaps arguable, but I also happen to think that adding thing to a calendar makes them more likely to occur. ;]
  2. We should use MapTool and Skype in conjunction with one another and test it out prior to the first actual game.
  3. We should fix on a date before the end of next week.
  4. We should game before the end of January.
There's my manifesto. My challenge to you, dear readers, is to game, to GAME!

[ Uh, and I'll GM if no one else wants to. :]

Pop-up Market in Bangkok

If my wife happens to see this...

I'd love a subscription to Mental Floss. I mean, really, our blog is just as eccentric, but they have a magazine. How cool is that.

Also, there's been some rumors (I'm staring at you, Sean) that there's a decent 3d online roleplaying game. We could use this as a bridge to real late-night-in-the-basement-drinking-coffee-and-generally-carousing type gaming? No? No meaning yes? Try it out. It's not Sauerbraten, I promise :)
